Being (sein) is like am-is-are in English.
In German, ich bin means 'I am' in English, and its use is almost the same.

ich bin => I am
du bist => you are
er-sie-es ist => he, she, it is
have similar uses.

I am a Turk: ich bin ein Türke
I am the doctor: ich bin Arzt
I am a student: ich bin Schüler
Who are you? : Wer bist du?
I am Ali: ich bin Ali
I am Muslim: ich bin Muslimisch
