What is Children's Rights?
Children's rights; 20 is considered within the scope of November World Children's Rights Day and Human Rights. This concept is the legal and moral rights of all children in the world from the moment they are born.



Declaration on the Rights of the Child

The first text on children's rights was published on 1917 under the name 'Declaration of the Rights of the Child'. The first text, however, is the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child approved by the League of Nations in 1924. This text was adopted by the UN and updated as the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child in 20 November 1959 and replaced by the wider UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in November 20.

While the rights of the child are universal, the declaration published is the signature of the country.
This document defines human rights in a wide range of areas such as civil, political, social, economic and cultural. The main points that shape the contract are; non-discriminatory means the best interests of the child and participation in the child's life and development.

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child consists of 54 articles. And this text is the most comprehensive legal text in the world. According to the first article of this article, everyone under the age of 18 is considered a child. And therefore they have inalienable rights.

If we look at the indispensable items; the right to survival and development, the right to have and retain a name and nationality, the right to access health care and education, the right to access a decent standard of living, the right to be protected from abuse and neglect, the right to be protected from economic exploitation and drug addiction, the right to recreation, recreation and cultural There are rights such as the right to have time for activities.

In addition to these rights, there is the right to freedom of thought and expression, the right to express their opinions on matters concerning them, and the right to freedom of association. At the same time, children with special needs and disabled children also have rights.
Issues such as child labor, recruitment as soldiers, abuse and violence are considered and evaluated as child abuse.



Committee on the Rights of the Child

It is a committee to examine how the States that have ratified the Convention apply the Convention. The Committee requires states to adopt the Convention as a guide when determining their policies. Ensuring the rights of children is related to awareness on this issue. In other words, as awareness increases, the rate of securing children's rights increases.

Children's Rights in Turkey

Although it was one of the first signatory states to sign the Declaration of the Rights of the Child at the World Summit for Children at the UN, the ratification and entry into force of the convention was made in January 19892.


Turkey is located between migration and distorted income distribution experienced reasons that trigger the rights of children. There are problems such as inadequate education, unemployment, unbalanced income distribution. Especially in our country, child abuse, which has been done by ignoring the personality of the child, has an important place. Especially in our country, there are serious deficiencies in terms of children's rights.
